Today Inspire attended D.C. String concert at the First Congressional Church down in D.C. It was our job to assist D.C. Strings in facilitating the event. We held interviews, set up photography and filming equipment and enjoyed some really beautiful concert music.

This is my weeks field highlights. This weeks tasks were a test at how well we would be able to maintain our attitudes while out on the streets talking to people about the local charity (D.C. Strings ) we represent. I think this was by far one of the hardest things I had to do. I found it extremely uncomfortable trying to stop people to talk. Everyone seemed too busy to stop and in a hurry. I started the week trying to be positive but failing to maintain the best outlook. I ended the week in a much better place and even  enjoyed the conversation we shared with a few people we stopped.

We nailed down a rough draft idea for our poster design for our DC GIVES BACK  events. We have two events for this campaign-Auction house, and parade. I am responsible for making revisions to our designs and visuals. Today was also a in  house strategy day we reached out to business for sponsorships, inquired about doing their ads, and looked into potential venues to house our events.

Inspire has partnered with local charity D.C. Strings who gives marginalized groups access to free music lessons, instruments, and venues they would have never had the opportunity to travel to. On June 18th we will be launching #DCGIVESBACK  we plan on highlighting D.C. Strings It was our job today to come up with ways in which we could get the community involved with their amazing cause. 1. Social Media: challenges, tik toks, video footage, interviews with students, teachers, and sponsors. 2. Events: Block Party, Festival, Pop-Ups, Parades, Bazaars 3. Promo: Podcasts, radio, College Students spread the word, animation gifs, Who are we highlighting: the everyday person (hero)

Today we played "marketing firm". I was asked to come up with a logo, pitch, chant, and company name to represent myself. It was my goal as a  leader to get as many of the new interns to want to join my team. I named my company "Elevate" I represented three core values. I called them the three Es. ( Educate, Entertain, Elevate) I learned how to build a team based on my strengths and the strengths of others.

STUCK AGAIN...

REFLECTION: I am stuck again. I am having a hard time breaking out of wanting to use my images so literally. I love my surrealist aesthetic that I have been creating in all of the rest of my pieces but find myself keeping getting stuck. I think I may just been in need of a break to come back with fresh eyes. 😕

ANDDD WE ARE BACK....😎

Here are a few of the pieces I have made since my previous updates I would say they are still a work in progress and need a few tweaks BUT WE ARE MAKING PROGRESS FOLKS !!! 😎

MORE RESEARCH

Found a parent targeted powerpoint about nurturing.  I may not be a parent yet but there are definitely some really cool exercises in this powerpoint that give insight into the nurturing role of parents and even includes some activities created to promote personal healing necessary due to a lack of nurturing from our own parents as well. I am going to try out these activities myself and get back to yall about it!  https://slideplayer.com/slide/12804804/

OVERTHINKING IT!

REFLECTION: Im finding myself back at square 1. I have been getting guidance from one of my favorite professors and she suggests that my lack of productivity may be coming from being too much in control of what I want to say instead of allowing myself the space and time to get a feel for what I am creating. I think I am just scared that what if what I am creating is not cohesive and clear. Lets see what happens....I guess 😣

PROGRESS!!

My first piece! 😄    REFLECTION: I am super excited! I was stuck in my head trying to figure out what to do. I have been in such a space of not creating anything for so long that trying to get back in my creative space has been hard. I don't know if it has been due to lack of inspiration or just genuinely being tired that has been the hold up but lets hope I can keep up the momentum!

NURTURING??

After going through some old family photos I started to note a pattern amongst the young girls and women photographed. They were almost all holding a baby doll, holding a real baby (a younger relative/or their child), or keeping a watchful eye on those they were photographed with. This got me thinking...👀  nurturing seems to be innate....something that we women have had since we were little girls. Lets look at the psychology on it...   https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/complete-without-kids/201103/woman-s-biological-need-nurture-and-how-satisfy-it-when-you-re-not

CHANGE OF PLANS😬

CHANGE OF PLANS😬   I've been stuck for quite some time trying to figure out what i'd create. I felt so committed to my idea that I was unwilling to change it even though I was unable to produce anything that connected my art to my original idea.  BUT... I have finally nailed down my concept and have realized that my body of work will reflect the outcome of my "grief". This outcome I am referring to is an outpouring of love from all of the women still physically here. With that being said... LETS GET STARTED! 😎

Line Art Option 1 (How-to video)

For my installation I will be creating two large hearts formed from nails and string. I have not quite decided whether or not I will be strictly creating a wall piece as seen in the video or creating a more three dimensional standing figure. I struggle with the idea of how long a more three dimensional standing figure will last in comparison to a wall piece.
